Call For Papers: Workshop on EU Trade Agreements and Strategic Autonomy: Continuity or Change?

Our partners at the KU Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies, together with the University of Edinburgh, are organising a fantastic workshop on EU trade agreements and strategic autonomy — and the call for papers is now open!

Date: 16 June 2026 | KU Leuven, Belgium Abstract deadline: 12 March 2026

Don't miss out on this opportunity to present your research on one of the most pressing topics in EU external relations. The workshop will examine how recent trade agreements reflect the EU's turn towards 'open strategic autonomy', and whether this represents a paradigmatic shift in trade policy.

Topics include:

  • Strategic autonomy in EU trade agreements

  • Economic security, resilience & supply chains

  • Sustainability, climate & human rights provisions

  • Implications for third countries & multilateral trade

Submit your proposal (title, 300-word abstract & short bio) to conference@ggs.kuleuven.be by 12 March 2026. Limited travel and accommodation funding is available!
